Job Readiness Trainer - STRIVE

JOB TITLE: Job Readiness Trainer (STRIVE)

DEPARTMENT: Employment Services

LOCATION: Mt Vernon, NY

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

SUMMARY:

Westhab is seeking a passionate Job Readiness Trainer to assist our DSS (Department of Social Service) program with serving employable individuals between the ages of 18-62 years old. The ideal candidate will be committed to STRIVE s signature CORE Attitudinal and Job Readiness Training. The CORE workshop is an intensive four-week soft skills training in attitude modification, self-presentation, and workplace readiness. This attitudinal training is based upon the premise that employers look for people who will fit into the workplace, accept the authority of supervisors, get along with peers, and display an eagerness to learn.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitating all aspects of STRIVE s four-week Job Readiness program, which includes motivational sessions; goal setting; orientation to workplace expectations, and communication skills
  • Conduct monthly CORE workshop orientations
  • Specialize in resume creation, interviewing techniques, and public speaking
  • Create an interactive training environment, maintain structure in the workshop, challenge participants to improve their skills and confront their negative attitudes about work, while assisting them to develop self-confidence and self-reliance within a supportive environment
  • Identify problem areas/obstacles for each participant, and adjust the training to meet those needs
  • Create and research training exercises that will enhance the growth and development of the participants
  • Present information using a variety of instructional techniques or formats, such as role playing, simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, or lectures
  • Organize and obtain training procedure manuals and course materials such as handouts and visual materials
  • Create detailed case notes to record student progress throughout the program s duration
  • Maintain documentation, attendance records, and distribute transit cards
  • Attend meetings and trainings offered by Westhab, Westchester County Department of Social Services and/or Strive International
  • Complete other tasks as assigned or needed
  • DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities and socio-economic populations and to maintain confidentiality
  • Act as an example of professionalism to participants by dressing appropriately, always starting on time, and by addressing one another, other staff, and participants in a professional manner
  • Convey relevant information about program graduates to the STRIVE staff

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

BA or BS preferred. Minimum of two (2) years experience in job readiness or workforce development required. Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must have a high energy level with excellent administrative, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Must be flexible and able to assess the needs of the client, and have the ability to keep calm and reason during stressful situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory. Knowledge of TANF system helpful. Must have a valid driver s license and car available for work

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
